Dude, Connie is a girl's name. Why would a skinny guy who already had been hit with the ugly stick want to compound his problems by going by "Connie"??
Ha. Mike Fraysse (who rarely retold stories to the same groups, despite having 50+ years in the world of bikes)once decided to make fun of three people in the same story: Eddie B., Davis Phinney and Connie Carpenter.
Fraysse goes, "Hey, did you hear what Eddie B. said about Davis Phinney's major physical problem?" And the listener would wait with eagerness to hear the pronouncement of the proud Polish coach.
"Well," says Fraysse, "keep in mind, this was after some race that they'd both competed in [in individual events], so Eddie B. looks at Davis - who has just won first place - and says to him in his heavily-accented Polish-English: 'Davis, do you know what yoooour problemm iz? You have zee strong legs, but [casts his eyes in the direction of Connie] weak eyes.'"
LOL
Mike Fraysse...he was a fun guy to be around and, for many years, he was a good mentor as well.
